His and Hers Pillows DIY

So, I’ve been thinking for a while in getting my boyfriend and I something as a cute gift for us, you know, it doesn’t have to be Valentine’s Day to do something special!

I turned to Pinterest for ideas, a site I use a lot for art ideas as well. But anyhow, I found these cute his/her pillow designs that I thought were just the most adorable thing ever! I did see them on sale on Etsy, but to be honest I thought $44.00 for the pair was a little pricy, so after putting some thought into it, I decided I could do my own!

They turned out really cute, so I wanted to share them with you!

First, I bought the two pillows from Walmart for $5.88 each; I went with the very firm kind because I thought they would be easier and sturdier to paint on. I wanted to paint straight on the pillow instead of a pillowcase because I think the design would look more like a print if done that way.

Then, I read a trick online where if you just take any acrylic paint and mix it with a Fabric Medium, it would turn it into fabric paint! In this case I bought the CraftSmart Fabric Medium, which was again very inexpensive.. only $1.29. As far as the acrylic paints, I already had my own and I only used red and black, which helped once again with the price.

As far as the design goes, the easiest method that I could come up with was to just eye it. I saved the image from the website that I got it from, and drew it freestyle on the pillow lightly with a pencil, so if I did a mistake, I could easily go back and erase it. Once I traced it I went back to it with my brush and started painting.

You want to be very careful on keeping your work clean. Make sure you don’t touch the wet paint and smudge the white pillow. I’m saying this as this happened to me several times lol

Once you are done with the desired design, you just leave it to dry for at least half an hour, and you’re done!

Hope you like them as much as I did, let me know what you think, and if you want to try and make your own, feel free to ask any questions, just leave a message below!
